Fashion!

In the 50's, TEENAGERS (who are the ones you see in the movie) had inspiration by famous actors and actress and began to differentiate themselves from their parents. There were two looks forward: the "greaser" and "preppies." Greasers were those who wore jeans and leather jackets. And the Preppies were the girls wore pastel colored clothes, cardigans, appliques on clothing and almost always ribbons and fringe. In the movie Grease John Travolta was a "greaser" and Oliva Newton John, "preppie" (at first) and a "greaser" (in the last scene).

As for MEN, only adults, wore hats. Similarly, in a breast pocket handkerchief became an ornament used only on very special occasions. The flaps have reduced their size and width, the collars were reduced to a minimum and ties came to be up only 3 cm wide. At a time when sportswear was born the elegant, the shoes were simple shapes. The cardigans, bow ties and university-style are the stars of this look.
The convenience outweighed the formality but still be stylish.
As WOMEN left their houses and went to departures and reunions, so they needed to be glamorous and femenines. "New Look" was the most important look, with the classic suit skirt and jacket to the body, suits trimmed, the handbags with chains, knee dresses with wide shoulders and waists securely fastened.
The hairstyles were short and somewhat undulating.

Dance!

Grease in the film we see many choreographies. The more our attention is on the dance contest they do in the school gym when Denny i Cha Cha win. This dance is the Rock and Roll. Now we will tell you a bit how this dance.
Is American born in the second half of the 50's. Characterized by a stomping beat, this dance quickly caught in youth by her ease and energy. Danced slightly inclined to the couple and with a little hip movement. It is one of the few ballroom dancing is not "stuck" but the couple caught in a single hand.

Music of 50's

In the early 50's, the radio DJ Alan Freed popularized the term rock on the airwaves. It is time that begins to emerge a new musical style, as groundbreaking and innovative and provocative, the product of the fusion of black music (blues) and white (country). Bill Haley & The Comets (with his classic Rock around the clock), the firebrand Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard and Chuck extravagant Berry, with names like Buddy Holly, Eddy Cochran and Gene Vincent are among the protagonists in these early years . But the mother would rock in every way with a young man from Tupelo, Mississippi, who went by the name of Elvis Aaron Presley, and that would ensure that the phenomenon had the reach and impact worldwide. The miracle occurred on July 5, 1954 in the studio of Sun Records, a crummy little room located at 706 Union Avenue, Memphis (Tennessee). An arrogant kid that took 19 years to be a humble local truck driver and, after recording a song three minutes long, took to the streets become a king. Elvis Aron Presley was called and hung over the heated asphalt southern convinced that his destiny was the glory was blown youth culture, created the social phenomenon of the twentieth century and changed the course of time. Elvis Presley had invented the rock and roll. Or so it seemed. Further analysis may limit its importance into a simple white ambassador of the sounds created by blacks. The rock music is a bastard, conceived on a cotton plantation, built in an illegal distillery and calving in a brothel. Elvis loved the blues, the devil's music, and do not hesitate to pick up the essence of these sounds dark (work songs, blues, gospel ...), lowering his blackness with some country and selling them to the world wrapped in a couple of shots hip. Young people needed something. Own culture that would eliminate from their repertoire of Frank Sinatra's maudlin melodies, good manners of Doris Day and bellicose arrogance of Eisenhower and Nixon. A revolution that stretch to a dormant company, which put an end to racial segregation and revolt against the rules. When Elvis recorded the legendary song entitled That's All Right, in the United States would throw the first atomic submarine and dismissing Senator McCarthy witch-hunts. The rest of the planet began to hum the songs from the eight countries that participated in the first Eurovision Song Contest. American writer Susan Sontag was 21, "Elvis and Chuck Berry were to leave my husband and I forget the academic world," said Elvis was the white king and Jerry Lee Lewis the most direct rival to take his throne. Buddy Holly, Gene Vincent and Eddie Cochran were worthy squires. Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Bo Diddley had as much or more class than them, but the color of their skin prevented them from fighting on equal terms. A racial problem that kept anonymous, and deprived of the rights to their songs, some of the most important creators in the history of blues and black rock, sources in the later white rockers would drink: Elmore James, Howlin 'Wolf, Freddie King, Muddy Waters, Lonnie Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy ...

Our opinon and our fever of Grease!

For us, Grease is the best film of ever! there are love, songs, dances, tension...
While the film is very old, tales of love doesn't change. Grease is the perfect blend: a love story in high school, memorable dances and catchy songs.
We have seen it over 10 times we know it by heart, but every time we see it, enjoy like the first. We have de special edition DVD's with karaoke and a vidio that teaches you the dance steps of the songs from the film. It's super cool! We have all the walls of the room full of grease's posters, especially John Travolta . He is very handsome and he has got a hot body! Also we have too the jacket of Pink Ladies and we wear it every day when we go to school, because we have a group that name's Pink Ldies, like the film! We feel very identified with the protagonist of the film because we apparently be good girls but in the end, and if we want, we can be rebel! The next week we organised a Grease party. The boys have to wear leather jackets and toupée and skinny jeans. And the girls can wear a long skirt like good Sandy's with headband or skinny leather pants, hight heels, a crazy hair and a leather jacket. The party is in the school gym and start at 8:00 pm. The music will be like 50's and Grease songs! we are very excited!!

The film

Summer 1959. Sandy (Olivia Newton John) and Danny (John Travolta) has spent a romantic and wonderful summer together, but when the holidays are over, their paths diverge. Unexpectedly, one again sees the institute Rydell, but Danny's attitude is no longer the same: no longer the charming and friendly guy who dazzled Sandy, now it is vain and insensitive.
