Fashion!

In the 50's, TEENAGERS (who are the ones you see in the movie) had inspiration by famous actors and actress and began to differentiate themselves from their parents. There were two looks forward: the "greaser" and "preppies." Greasers were those who wore jeans and leather jackets. And the Preppies were the girls wore pastel colored clothes, cardigans, appliques on clothing and almost always ribbons and fringe. In the movie Grease John Travolta was a "greaser" and Oliva Newton John, "preppie" (at first) and a "greaser" (in the last scene).

As for MEN, only adults, wore hats. Similarly, in a breast pocket handkerchief became an ornament used only on very special occasions. The flaps have reduced their size and width, the collars were reduced to a minimum and ties came to be up only 3 cm wide. At a time when sportswear was born the elegant, the shoes were simple shapes. The cardigans, bow ties and university-style are the stars of this look.
The convenience outweighed the formality but still be stylish.
As WOMEN left their houses and went to departures and reunions, so they needed to be glamorous and femenines. "New Look" was the most important look, with the classic suit skirt and jacket to the body, suits trimmed, the handbags with chains, knee dresses with wide shoulders and waists securely fastened.
The hairstyles were short and somewhat undulating.
